ESL Expression of the Day

"no longer" means that something was true in the past, but it is not true now.

It is similar to another expression: "used to".

Examples:

I no longer smoke. I used to smoke.

You no longer have a car. You used to have a car.

He no longer lives here. He used to live here.

George Bush is no longer President. He used to be President.

In a very formal style, it can be put at the end of the sentence, like this:

George Bush is President no longer.
