red-eye

'red-eye' is an expression meaning: to be awake all night (tired, with blood-shot eyes) or a plane or train that travels at night. For example: I took the red-eye to Boston. means ... I took the plane to Boston over-night, so I was up all night. I have red eyes lately because I am getting up early to go to work.
